About the Trust

Shri Jagdish Prasad Mathur Charitable Trust was established on 17th January 2002 with the trustees namely Shri Lal Krishna Advani, Shri K. Jana Krishnamurti, Shri Jagdish Prasad Mathur, Shri Shobhit Kumar, Shri Sudhindra Jain, Smt. Sushma Mehrotra, Shri Dharmendra Bhandari and Shri Amitabh Sinha. Shri Arun Jaitley and Smt. Kalyani Shankar joined later. Shri M.P. Mehrotra was the settler of the Trust. The Trust is a social voluntary organisation serving nation through its various activities since its establishment.

The trust is registered under section 12A and 80G of Income Tax Act, 1961.

Shri Lal Krishna Advani ji is one of the senior-most leaders in Indian politics today. Born in Karachi on November 8th, 1927, to parents Kishinchand Advani and Gyanidevi, Advani ji hails from a highly respected traditional family. They belonged to the Amil branch of Sindhi Hindus, a dominant community in the region during that time.

Advani ji's political journey started decades ago when he first joined the Rashtriya Swayamasevak Sangh (RSS) at the young age of 14 as a volunteer. It did not take him long to realize that politics was his calling and he eventually dedicated his life to the service of the nation. Shri Lal Krishna Advani ji is one of the founding members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He has been the leader of the opposition twice in the Lok Sabha and has also served as the deputy Prime Minister of the country. Widely known as a principled man with great intellectual capabilities, he is also called the “Iron Man” for embodying the ideals that Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel stood for. He is also credited with the rise of the BJP, a party he served for several decades with relentless passion and dedication. Under his able guidance and direction, the BJP went from strength to strength; and the party emerged as a major force in the 1989 parliamentary elections, when it won 86 seats—a remarkable improvement over its previous performance of two seats.

A patriot to the core, he always envisioned an idea of a strong and prosperous India and held steadfastly to his ideals. Currently, he is a member of parliament from the Gandhi Nagar constituency and has assumed the role of mentor to the new crop of BJP leaders.

Shri Arun Jaitley, one of the prominent leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party and a senior advocate in the Supreme Court, was born on 28th of December, 1952 to a family of lawyers, social activists and philanthropists in Delhi. He started his political career in 1974 when he won the election to become President of Delhi University Students' Union.

In 1975 when emergency was declared, Arun Jaitley was one of the leaders to be detained and was imprisoned for 19 months in the Tihar Jail, Delhi.

Shri Jaitley served as General Secretary of the BJP in 2002 and then again in 2004. In 2009 he was appointed Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha. In 1999 he was appointed Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting (Independent Charge). He took over the additional charge of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Company Affairs on July 23, 2000. He was elevated as a Cabinet Minister in November 2000 and was made, simultaneously; Minister of Law, Justice and Company Affairs and Shipping. He demitted the office of the Minister for Shipping on September 1, 2001 and as Union Minister of Law, Justice and Company Affairs on July 1, 2002 to join as Secretary General, BJP and as its national spokesman. He rejoined the Union Cabinet as Minister of Commerce, Industry and Law & Justice on 29 January 2003. In his capacity as the leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha. He has been credited for his excellent oratory which is matched equally by his intense research into the topic and his ability to succinctly convey the message without getting shrill.

A strategic planner of the BJP, Shri Arun Jaitley is currently a member of the Rajya Sabha and Finance Minister & Minister of Corporate Affairs in the Govt. of India.

Shri Shobhit Kumar, an educationist and social activist, was born on 24th July, 1967 to a very prominent family of historical and religious town Gangoh of district Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. In the span of the last 27 years, Shri Kumar had been instrumental for the development of a number of educational, social and health organizations in Northern India.

He is also the founder and Chairman of Shobhit University. In order to reach out to the rural youth of all backgrounds, and to develop employable skills through industry-oriented technical and vocational training, skill development centers and community colleges are being established in rural areas on his initiative. Gurukul Mahavidyalaya, Haridwar conferred Honorary Doctorate Degree upon him in 2008.

Shri Shobhit Kumar, a very close associate of Shri Jagdish Mathur ji, was entrusted the responsibility of Managing Trustee of Shri Jagdish Prasad Mathur Charitable Trust by Shri L.K. Advani ji in 2008 after the sudden demise of Shri Mathur ji.
